By Amy Morrison

It is wonderful to get all kinds of gifts when you have a baby, but man, can it be hard to follow up with a thank you card.

If you're stumped on what to write or worried someone might compare notes so you don't want to say the same thing every time, here are some inspiring words to pop in a thank you card after someone sends you a baby gift.

Add some detail

If you want to add some extra oomph to the note, add some details about your relationship or the gift. How are you going to use it? How is it helpful? How did it make you feel special? Do you have an inside joke? Is your baby lucky to have them in their life? Will they be an incredible <aunt, uncle, etc.>?

Is it tacky to email someone a thank you note?

No. Personally, I think it is tacky when people expect a handwritten thank you note from someone who has gotten a person out of their body and has probably had 16 minutes of collective sleep that week.

It's nice to thank people whenever they think of you, and I think an email or even paperless post totally fits the bill.

Writing Baby Thank You Card Tips

As for actually getting them out the door, here are a few extra tips I figured out along the way:

  • Arm yourself with extra thank-you notes before the baby arrives because the gifts keep coming, and you will never be able to find anything that doesn’t look like vomit in a pinch.
  • Have stamps.
  • Have someone pre-write the addresses of all the gift-givers on the envelopes so you don’t have to address them.
  • Only do one or two at a time, so you don’t screw them up.

Hopefully, this will help lighten the load and make your thank you cards for all your baby gifts a little easier to write.
